Metal Hose Length & Bend Radius Calculator

Calculate the minimum live hose length required for a lateral offset using the selected hose’s validated minimum bend radius.

Use product-specific data: Minimum bend radius is not a fixed multiple of nominal hose size. Enter the manufacturer-published static or dynamic bend radius for the exact hose series, size, braid, pressure, and motion condition.

Offset relationship used: L = √(6YR + Y²). The result is a geometric minimum live length before any required straight tangent, fitting, braid-collar, or manufacturer installation allowance.

Metal Hose Live Length, Bend Radius & Offset

This calculator estimates the geometric live hose length required to accommodate lateral travel. Use the validated minimum bend radius for the exact hose series and motion condition. Static installation bend radius and dynamic repeated-motion bend radius are not interchangeable.

Live length is not the same as overall assembly length

Calculated live length covers the flexible hose geometry only. Final overall length may also require straight tangent, braid collar, fitting, weld, flange, or installation allowances. Those dimensions depend on the selected assembly construction.

Inputs to verify before fabrication

  • Total lateral travel or offset the hose must absorb.
  • Product-specific static or dynamic minimum bend radius.
  • Motion frequency and expected cycle count.
  • Pressure, temperature, braid construction, and hose series.
  • End connections, installation orientation, and available envelope.
